The Academy of Mediators was born out of a shared passion for conflict resolution and a genuine understanding of how challenging it can be to grow and progress as a mediator.
A Clear Purpose
Having worked for many years at the heart of mediation practice, training and supervision, we came together with a clear purpose: to create a training academy that truly prepares people for real-world mediation, not just qualification on paper.
Our journey is closely linked to our sister organisation, 1st Mediation, which has long supported newly trained family mediators as they take their first steps into practice. Through this work, we saw first-hand what new mediators need — confidence, practical skills, realistic insight and ongoing encouragement — and the Academy of Mediators grew naturally from that experience.
People, Not Just Process
We believe mediation is about people, not just process. Our approach is grounded, supportive and practical, shaped by years of hands-on experience resolving conflict and mentoring others. We understand the doubts, the questions and the excitement that come with entering this profession, and our courses are designed to meet delegates where they are, helping them develop not only competence, but their own authentic mediation style.
What We Offer
We deliver an intensive five-day Civil and Commercial Mediation Training Programme, designed to open up a new avenue or career in a growing and increasingly vital industry.
On successful completion, delegates will be eligible for Civil and Commercial Council accreditation, enabling them to register as an official mediator and begin taking on mediation work. This qualification opens doors across a wide range of sectors where conflict resolution skills are in high demand.
Our course is designed for a broad and diverse group of delegates, including:
- Legal professionals looking to add another string to their bow
- Professionals such as HR practitioners, Accountants, corporate employees and other service providers who encounter conflict in their work
- Career changers who are drawn to mediation, but have no prior experience
- Students of Law, HR or Business seeking a practical, people-focused pathway
